I-Cord is a narrow stockinette tube that can be worked free or attached, in which case it binds off an edge with itself. In this short video I teach you the backward-loop cast-on (necessary to begin I-Cord) and then free I-Cord followed by attached I-Cord.

  • I notice you are using the new square needles. How do you like them? Is there an advantage over round needles?

  • @bikrgran These are from Knitters Pride and they are the DPNs. To my surprise, I do like them. They feel very nice in the hand and have nice points. For some knitters who have trouble with aching hands, the square shape is better, because it requires far less pressure to control.

  • Thank you for bringing the I-cord to more people! I love the I-cord.

Now all that's left is the I-cord cast on.

  • I am new to knitting and I liked the backward cast on that you demonstrated. For example for a knitted scarf or cowl or hat, can i use the backward cast on to start the project?

  • those square dpns sound awesome! I definitely need to try them!

  • This video was very informative! I NOW know how to bind off with an I-Cord attached.

You made it look so simple... and I feel very confident that I can do it. Thank you so much!

  • @catbordhi Thanks, Cat. I noticed them in the Webs catalog and wondered about them. I don't normally use DPN's but they come in handy when knitting circular smaller than the circs can manage. I really appreciate your videos. I've attempted a couple of Sweet Tomato heels with limited success, but plan on keep trying.
