Ignore my narration, I always get things wrong & end up saying a load of rubbish!
This 2nd go with my video toy is to prove that trickle chargers can be used for quick charging or even runn low power applications. It will also rapid charge a Freeloader and cam corder batteries. Much better than many custom jobs for sale for much more; also one gets to mess about with crocidile clips & wires and junk from poundland.

  • what is that box at 0:35

  • @matty01231 Hi, That's the regulator for the larger 13watt solar briefcase which was charging a car battery

  • can 12v solar panel charge 12v car battery?

  • @SKMatoBB

It will only trickle charge a car battery, to maintain the charge - to charge it, it would be like filling up a swimming pool with a tea cup. It will slowly charge smaller 12v batteries, or with the right adaptors charge phones, ipods, camera etc. To charge a car battery, the panel should be at least 13w, probably much higher!

  • Hi mate. Can I ask what voltage your controller dump load starts to dump the load? 14.1Volts

  • The controller on view was not part of that Solar phone charging circuit. That controller is part of the 13watt Solar Briefcase, which is about 2 amps

  • so in dull light this car battery trickle charger can provide enough sustained current to charge a phone? i was thinking of getting a 12volt 4watt solar panel(car trickle charger) would that provide enough current to charge an android phone and other such devices?

  • @JonathanGear

for rapid car battery charge i am using 300 watt charger 10a through 12v with adapter 12v to 220v 300w , talked to seller he said that it would take then couple hours or so , but the thing with solar panels if it is more watt & all then it costs way way more then other stuff, ok free charge and all that from sunlight but ok and also you gotta have regulators and all that then ... but to maintain same amount in car battery or to charge it very slowly with trickle then its good

  • @JonathanGear

can you attach that to rear vieuw window of car on inside and how mutch does that cost aprox ? 13 watt is alot more then i have currently ...

  • i got solar charger hooked to rear vieuw window of my car inside attached, and thats charging a reserve battery of mine, more like trickle but ok, i use the reserve battery to power car heater with a timer in between to defrost my windows when i am still asleep, i charge the battery with 12v to 220v inverter 350w with a battery charger 10a 300w , when im driving it recharges then, and when im parked ( during day i.e. at work or at home ) then i hook up the solar charger to it , saving € 500 EURO

  • According to a quick calculation in my head, 30 of them will need to be running on a perfectly sunny day to keep my laptop going.

  • @JonathanGear can you use a 1,5Watt solar panel to charge one 12V 7.2Amp battery? So it's not a car battery because these batteryes have more than 45-55Amp...I would like to use a 1.5Watt solar panel,to charge one 12V 7.2A battery,a small 12V-220V inverter (75wat maybe or less) and 1-2 economic light bulbs.Do you think it will work? I saw one man playing an electric guitar,he had one 12V 7.2A battery->100W 220V inverter-> 220V speakers. So I see it would be possible

  • Also remember the watt raiting is done not at 12v but at around 16 so they actually produce less power at 12 check it out .

I use various panels to give around 30w to trickle large storage cells but they r only used for emergency power 400ah capacity

  • They r not bad price goes up and down so i buy them when they r low cost.

I fit a 5w 14v zener across 12v gel batterys of around 1.2ah so that the panel cant over volt the battery when fully charged and use them to run modified led inspection lights from class olson .

have sent some to friends in asia for use in power cuts even used them for green house evening lighting they will run the inspection lamp with a 1.2ah battery for abt 6 hrs fully charged .

  • usb is 5v

  • @JonathanGear what is the name of that particular car adapter your using?...because, I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON IT,AND FOUND OUT THAT I CAN NOT USE THIS PARTICULAR ONE THAT HAS THE CIG. PLUG,BECAUSE MY CAR'S CIG. PLUG DOES NOT CONSTANTLY RUN WHILE THE CAR IS OFF,AND THAT I WILL NEED THE CHARGER PANEL WITH THE CLAMPS INSTEAD OF THE CIG. PLUG. SO IF YOU CAN HELP ME,I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU
