Gardner O type from Alyn foundry castings. This is hot tube fuelled by propane for both burner and ignition. Gas is double regulated to achieve the low pressure. Running in idle speed.

  • Very nice in both looks and sound. So is this a genuine hot-tube engine, with no ignition system once up to temperature? I've seen model engines running on gas with a tiny spark plug, but never a true minature hot bulb/tube engine.

  • The ignition is by hot tube only and it was a devil's own job to get it to work initially, especially outdoors where the flame blows out easily. Gas mixture is critical and that is why I ended up having to double regulate and place a gas bag in the line to prevent pressure fluctuations.

I have seen a full size 1f wich I recon is about the same size. Jolly nice engine, well done!

  • This appears a very accurate model of the original engine. Great sound.
