Sit back and marvel at the colors.

This is a short video I wish to share, about my most satisfying moment in woodworking when you pour the first layer of oil onto it. A tribute to wood! Sometimes the results are so impressive that my jaw hits the floor, and I must resist the urge to 'eat it'. Yes eat it, because oil over dark woods make it look like chocolate or candy! :P.

I use oils (or my own mixes) like Shellac, Tung oil, Linseed oil, Danish oil and lemon oils predominately, for they enhance the colors and vibrancy of the wood with stunning results. I always aim for maximum vibrancy, or also known as 'popping the grain' or the holographic effect you sometimes see in the wood.
Like in this video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipD8SybPgRM

The object you see in this video is stuff I've made earlier, or what I am working on at the moment. I will post another video on Small Woodworking Projects soon.

  • Was that third sphere ash?

  • @Mightypaul negative, it's Golden Chain (Laburnum sp.)

  • So if i understand right, You use a shellac sanding sealer and let it dry and then use your 3 part mix. Is that correct. Beatiful projects.

  • @MrLeonard55 Correct, good luck. :)

  • do u add the shellac after or?

  • @Noobskis Before, to seal all pores to get an uniform sheen.
