Its that time of the year. I made a trip to the Japanese immigration office in Shinagawa in order to renew my visa and ensure that I don't get deported!

It was a generally painless process except for the fact that it is about an hour trip each way and all together the fees totalled about $100. I was a little worried this year as it was my first time applying for a "Self-Sponsored Visa."

For those who are interested in learning more about the various kinds of visas available my next video will be a "F.Y.I Visa" video explaining all that in greater detail.

Music:

Going Down South (Remix) - R.L. Burnside
Tick Toc (Live)- Eastern Standard Time
The Waiting - Tom Petty
Dancing Fever - Claudia Barry

  • ok kevin....who is the person holding your camera when your away from it? I saw it zoom in and out while you were in line and when you were doing your silly white boy dance lol ^_^ but seriously, whose handling it when your not?

  • Its funny. You people are seriously detective like when you watch these. Just a random gaijin friend who was getting his visa renewed at the same time. I filmed him originally but he later e-mailed me and asked not to be included. Oh well.

  • I'm wondering if it's cheaper to get a J-Rail pass or pay for each individual Yamanote ride... You say it was an hour ride to Shinagawa, so that means you live around Ikebukuro, right? That's about hald of the Yamanote circle for 100 bucks... whereas a pass for rides whenever for 2 weeks costs 400 bucks for an adult... maybe it's just cheaper for visitors...

  • It only costs about 2-3 dollars by JR from Ikebukuro where I live to shinagawa. I only recommend the rail pass if you plan on going to another city like Kyoto, Osaka or Nara. Getting a round Tokyo the rail pass is helpful, but it cant be used on subways which are sometimes more direct.
