In Papua New Guinea a group of initiates is about to enter the final stage of a long and arduous ritual. There is no set age for the rite...but no one can have full status as a man until he's been scarred with mark of the crocodile.

just because they believe something different than you doesn't make them morons. Their cause is good, they want to make sure the males considered "men" earn their title. it goes back to survival of the fittest, natural selection. their's nothing stupid about it.

this is perfectly understandable, in their culture, man who manage to be able to endure all this is fit for raising a family because it takes pain endurance, strong immune system, and a strong mind to be able to finish this rite, and their children will be more likely to have those traits, which is good for survival in their evnviroment. This is just a simple example of sexual selection
