Thank you ZMBIE! These residents are exhausted! Failures by these agencies ruined their lives over 5 years ago and now they are threatened once again. I personally live in this area and I have begged the Corps and Levee Board to buy everything...house and all and end the nightmare. Instead they chip away at private property bit by bit- currently taking over 2000sq ft of property and planning to take over 3000sqft...bigger than my house! All without purchasing it...they stole it!

SHAME ON THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS and on the SELFPA. Because of the Corps incompetence at building flood protection, these folks lost everything that they owned. They have been further victimized by these very same government agencys by having to fight to keep their property from being stolen from them. A fight that they shouldn't have to fight.
The homeowners have said 'take whatever property of mine that you need to make the city safer, we just ask that I be compensated."

These homeowners have no interest in stopping any levee work. They are only interested in stopping the levee board and the Corps from stealing their land.
The South East Louisiana Flood Protection Authority East and the Corps throw out this cr@p that it is about the safety of the city. That is pure garbage. How is the city made any safer if this work is done on land that is taken away from homeowners without compensating them for their loss as opposed to taking the land the proper way?
