Fast success in Hollywood brings a cavalier party lifestyle, which led to shocking scandals such as Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle's trial and subsequent acquittal for manslaughter. To tone down the image of Hollywood and curtail films with footage unsuitable to all audiences, Will H. Hays is appointed and introduces Hollywood's self regulated Production Code, which would be enforced well into the 1960s, while filmmakers still found creative ways to present 'adult' situations. Interviews include King Vidor and Gloria Swanson.

superb series watched it in 1980 when i was 14 and again when chanel4 (uk) showed it in 1982 and again in 1988 got the book and the soundtrack all i want now is a dvd copy. i heard that there was going to be a release but there was a royalties dispute

In fact, these episodes were released in the UK, but was quickly removed from the catalog, because of copyright.

The problem is that many artists was interviewed, and many have died; Thus, producers need to seek those responsible for the rights, which is very difficult, since there is no information on the heirs, or guardians (which are probably the family).

Fantastic Ive loved this series ever since I was a teen starting university. Watched it in the TV room of our student hall of residence with 2 other every week.We were always holding our breath that each week that the room wouldnt alrady be occupied by students watching another channel!

How I wish this series were released on DVD . Such a great documentary with the clear narration of James Mason. Thanks so much Im hoping you may have the rest.
