Snowman on the run by Frode Sten Jacobsen Animation Stop motion

snowman animation was made in 1996 in Norway. A real size snowman was animated with other snowmen around the woods for a couple of days. It is a stop frame animation and we took approximately 4000 frames to make this 4 min. animation. The short film is about a reel size and real life snowman playing around with other snowmen at night.

ow by the way did you use 16 mm or super 16 and did you splice or telecine the footage then use an NLE ??

16 mm bolex camera 1967 style. I did the editing after in a professinoal place called filmteknikk in Oslo

16mm - I edited at Norsk Filmteknikk AS. It was scanned and processed professsionally. Remember that the film was shot over 48 hr in changing light quality from day to night so all the frames had to be light measured individually before each photo was taken ... 4000 times I pressed the bolexbutton and it was 28 degrees minus the last night - the camera worked perfectly ... we had to cut out 10 frames due to wrong exposure ... at sunrise it was some challenge without any automatic equippment

16 mm - yes I used a NLE at Norsk Filmteknikk AS - film scanning and editing witn an editor for many hours - and they let me off by paying them 100 punds wich was nothing compared to what they usualle charge

... however the non linear approach to the soundtrack and the dialouge (norwegian) is totally deconstructed and are running like two paralel narratives at the same time. I did not use story boards so a lot of these ideas came up as the project moved on - that is a way I sometimes like to work on my art films - even though  this one is probably my most comercial film work

thank you. it was quite difficult considering I used an old bolex camerna from the 60's. So I had to use a light meter reading now and then during the whole nigjht and the morning when the light changed during sunrise.
