Take Islam as a whole, not partially or partly in our life, then all these problems will cease to exist. This applies to both MEN and WOMEN, the people and the ruler. The whole system of life need to be overhauled with the true and correct teaching of the Al-Quran and the Prophet S.A.W..

As a muslim sister, I have no doubt that islam liberated women 1400 years ago. This is no new news to me. What I do have to respectfully criticise is the way, almost every lecture which deals with women in islam and the topic of oppression, only attempts to prove that Islam does not oppress women, and examples of this liberation are almost always derived from the time of the prophet saw, 1400 years ago.

There is no doubt that in most “muslim countries”, muslim women are being denied some of their basic rights... the right to choose a spouse, the right to own their own property, the right to inherit, the right to vote, the right to get an education, the right to divorce, the right to feel protected within their own homes, the right to get out of the house without being attacked or ogled by some pervert etc etc. Yet these rights were granted to us by Islam 1400 years ago.
While non-muslims blame islam for all this, the real culprits are the muslim men today. I would like to actually attend a lecture where the issue of oppression is addressed from today's standpoint and I want to leave the lecture with each and every brother being reminded of their responsibilities as men. Really its simple, muslim men are the problem, NOT islam, so lets address this.

Yet, what almost each and every lecture fails to acknowledge is the fact that there are muslim women TODAY who are oppressed and are facing the gravest of injustices. I have no doubt that this oppression is NOT due to islam, but the fault of ignorant muslim men, who give more weight to their cultures over islam.
