The BlackBerry isn't the darling of the mobile world anymore. They used to own the smartphone space. The device used to be "sexy." To have one was really cool. Now it's not so.
But is lack of coolness and limited press reasons to avoid developing for the BlackBerry handset? Not so, said Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations at RIM, there is an untold story.
According to a recent Yankee Group study, the BlackBerry store is the second most financially successful mobile app store behind Apple's app store, said Saunders. That means developers who target the BlackBerry platform make more money than those who target Android.
Saunders predicts the reason the Android market isn't so financially successful is the deluge of valuable free apps on the platform.
Another little known developer story is RIM's WebWorks SDK, the best implementation of HTML5 with the highest benchmark scores, said Saunders. With WebWorks you can create a native downloadable HTML5 version of your app that will work on the handset, playbook, and future handsets.
To learn more, RIM is holding BlackBerry DevCon, Oct 18th-20th in San Francisco. Show up and you'll get a free PlayBook, said Saunders.
why are they bashing android if they want to port the same in the future

BlackBerry AppWorld is the worst marketplace for apps today. No easy to use interface, discovery of apps is horrible, you can't find what you want even if it is available. Submission and other processes for developers are pathetic.
They should improve the marketplace rather than trying to get apps from other marketplace with Android Player, etc.
