Two new Electric Vehicle World Records in one Run!

Here is some video of the Killacycle and The ElectroCat. The Killacycle is the electric motorcycle that I designed and built the Battery Management System for. Below is some text that bike owner, Bill Dube' wrote describing the event:

The KillaCycle has done it again. We broke the _overall_ NEDRA record for electric's in the 1/4 mile. The KillaCycle is the very fastest and quickest EV of any sort in the 1/4 mile.

It was a beautiful day at Bandimere Speedway and, as always, the track conditions were perfect.

The A123Systems battery propelled us into the recordbooks once again. A123Systems stock raced ahead of the pack on the NASDAQ on Thursday, and their batteries put us _farther_ ahead of the pack today.

I believe we posted the lowest ET (best time) for any vehicle at the track today at Bandimere. There was a very well-attended bracket race going on, and I think the best ET of any of these powerful- purpose-built interal combustion vehciles was in the low 8's.

In the left lane is Eva Hakansson on her ElectroCat, 100% street-legal in both the USA and Sweden, set the open NEDRA record for a 48 volt street-legal motorcycle; 13.249 @ 52.97 MPH. (She selected the 1/8th mile record, even though her 1/4 mile time was also new record.)

  • I just watched that launch like 12 times in a row, each time saying "OH SHIT!!!"

  • Awesome! I didn't even have to turn my speakers down. Can't wait until they're practical for street/consumer use. Electric propulsion has to feel pretty cool. Maximum torque is available immediately.

Considering the fact that you never need oil changes and lubrication of dozens of moving parts, and there is no need for fossil fuels that need to be imported, refined, checked, stored, transported to your local station and then sold to you. Do not forget that an electric motor is 90% to 95% efficient, while a combustion engine is hardly 30% efficient.

These savings themselves make electric vehicles a lot safer and greener, even though they do draw their current from nuke/coal plants

  • 7.86 what?... seconds? Sorry, I don't get it.

  • What the fuck did a 21 second?? 100cc scooter??

  • Is he glued to the bike or something?!

  • @kiren77

It's a lot better than internal combustion. From memory it is like 5 times better (taking into account the coal burned at the power station etc.). That's a very, very rough guess from memory.

  • Electric motor is so quick in reaction, no time to synchronize air + gas + moving piston + Oil + clutch etc... Motor Electric is a simple rotator using a magnet.
