Now available the Samsung SMT-S7800 Freesat+ twin tuner HD recorder.

This is a basic unboxing and review video showing some of the menus and features of the box, some of the things covered include BBC iplayer, and You Tube.

At this time it is known that there are some very serious firmware bugs with this box to the point where some would say it is an unfinished product and should not have gone on sale. After testing the box for a few hours it seems that the reported problems are real, Samsung and Freesat have been made aware and hopefully soon an update will be issued to address the multitude of problems it has.

If you want to find out more about the issues this box has then follow the link below to follow the discussion.

  • Update from Samsung: In response to all the bugs reported with this box an update will be available from April 22nd to download from their website and an over the air update will happen from the 7th of May.

  • @ascarforever Further update, the firmware update has now been delayed until the 2nd of May

  • @ascarforever May 2nd update arrived as announced but has not fixed the majority of problems. Only fixed the Channel 4 schedule problem and BBC HD problem. Looks like nearly all of the other reported problems are still there and in the case of the HDMI not working with AV amps has got even worse. This box IMO is a POS and I have returned it for refund and got a Humax Foxsat HDR instead. Stay away from this junk.

  • You did not show any of the many bugs :(

Try and record two different movies on Film4 for example or set a series link recording on BBC2 and check the Library timer for which BBC regions it uses.

  • @IM35461 In addition I have tried the Film 4 bug and yes it does prevent me from setting any other timer for any prog on any Ch4 cluster of channels. However, if I set a timer on say Ch4 and then set more timers on E4, More 4 etc they all set correctly. BBC1 HD I did a test recording from timer and it recorded correctly and not from another region.

  • can this record gameplay off a PS3, im quite new to this and want to start making game commentary can someone reply please thanks in advance

  • I'm assuming this supports Anycast+. Do you know if you control this through a samsung TV. I've got a humax at the moment, it doesn't support HDMI-CEC and either the Samsung TV or DVD player always win the battle with the amplifier!

  • @IM35461 No worries, I suppose it could be easily missed :) I really do hope Samsung fix this box as I do quite like it and I really don't want to have to send it back for not being fit for purpose. I am starting to eye up the Echostar now so you never know.

  • @ascarforever Sorry, I should have clicked on "Show More" below your video :(

  • @IM35461 No because this is an overview of the product and not a bug report, I didn't want to be too negative about it. If Samsung are serious about this product then they will issue an update that fixes the most serious bugs. In the description box under the video I do say there are many bugs and there is a link to a discussion about them.
