A workaround is to rotate it the other way. If you hold the bottom of the phone (rotate the phone clockwise to hold in your left hand) the signal is a lot stronger.
Use WiFi Analyzer from the Android Market to look at the numbers. I saw values between -35dBm and -60dBm that all showed as full signal in the notification area.

My sensation dosent do it, hmm i guess i got lucky. tested it 5meters away from router with 30cm thick panel wall between.

I've got the same issue. I always have to hold my phone only with one hand in landscape as with both hands one will cover the WiFi radio and make lost the signal. But actually that's just one of the minor problems with this piece of sh** phone, I also got a 3g arrow up stuck problem, a screenshot with home button problem, a power button problem, so... Did I mention this is the worst phone I ever had?.

The only way Htc is going to address this issues is if customers let them know about their problem.The more people that contacts them. the more likely they will do something a about it.
