  • 'ere, lads. I was in London recently and was absolutely thrilled to come across Magri's autobiography in a bookshop in the west end! It's title is 'Champagne Charlie' and it's published by Pennant Books. I'm reading it at the moment and i must say it's a thoroughly enjoyable read.

All the best to Charlie wherever he is nowadays! A real class act!

  • It is a great little book wrote pretty much like it was Charlie speaking directly to you in his own words. I have some signed copies if anyone wants any. Charlie is still in London and doing fine. There is also a lot of his memorabilia being listed at the end of April on ebay as he sold his pub recently and had no space for it all. A lot of it has been sold already but there are still some nice bits left including the gown he wore when he won the World title

  • Thanks for posting - nice to see footage of Charlie, about time more people saw him in action - truly underrated.

  • No Problem! He was under rated. As an amateur he won 2 junior aba titles then 4 senior ABA titles in 6 consecutive years! then won the British Flyweight title in only his third professional fight - a record that will never be beaten

  • @copperpotbaby First of all; that might even mean he is even more underrated for not being recnognised for his achievements. As it goes, the Flyweight title changed hands constantly after Avelar was sparked by Prudencio Cardona, and only really achieved stability when Chitalada claimed the title (the 'lineal' title that is, which was the WBC and remains the WBC) but 'Asians' have about the same amount of quality Flys as the Western World does.

  • I'm related to him

  • Great Brit boxer !

  • @charliemagri81 How the hell was Magri underated? He boxed and achieved the highest goal in a division that is dominated solely by Asians! It is tougher for a westerner to win in this division because our builds r much bigger, whereas, Asians mostly are smaller but their bodies adapt to this and compensate with the muscles of a middleweight, for example! Magri was smaller, but overcame this with his skill, punching power and determination! He is unique to any other boxer!

  • @GolfMikeKilo Good old English-meaning? A person's culture is about how they r influenced and Charlie mixed completely with east enders all through his upbringing! He sounds cockney and acts like any other Londoner; Just the same as those with Irish relations etc, so why should he be classed any different? There r many "Brits" who speak another language at home and live with the culture of their parents, but because they're born here we have to accept them as our own! Visit his facebook page!

  • @charliemagri81 Pity u couldn't reply back when I previously asked u to name all of these above fights! If u were a genuine Magri fan, then you'd definitely be interested about my Magri dedication page! I have since watched each of his fights and can name each opponent, but u continue to quote facts from wikipedia!
