In October 1927, sculptor Gutzon Borglum began work on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, which features carvings depicting the faces of U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. 14 years later 1941, FDR unveiled the homage to democracy to American and the world.
