"I Wanna Spill the Blood of a Hippie'" was one of two singles - torch song 'Bottle' being the other - released by Australian comedy trio, the Doug Anthony Allstars (aka 'DAAS'). Both singles were derived from the trio's sole studio album, the ingenuously-subversive "DAAS Icon" (also known in Australian parlance as "Icon"). DAAS released "Icon" in 1990 as an independent release, which went on to become the highest-selling independent Australian record of the year. It also enjoyed some notoriety in the UK (where the group had achieved cult status some years before), after it was banned. This action was supposedly in reaction to the band's perceived endorsement of the IRA. Specifically, the song, "KRSNA" was cited as a direct reference. However, this was later overturned by a British court of appeals.
