Dr. Paul speaks about the specific nutritional needs of the Olympic calibre athlete and how it applies to us, the everyday American! Dr. Paul is a tenured college professor in the health and exercise science department at Skidmore College, specializing in performance nutrition and exercise training for optimal health. Dr. Paul has been an active research scientist for over 24 years. His primary research interests are performance nutrition and the effects of nutritional and physical activity interventions on body composition, physical performance and optimal health. Dr. Paul has authored over 25 peer-reviewed scientific articles, including book chapters and invited reviews in the areas of sport/performance nutrition, physical activity and disease prevention, focusing primarily on optimal health paradigms of healthy nutrition and exercise. He has presented his research at over 100 regional, national and international conferences, as well as at numerous other public forums. He serves as a reviewer for over a dozen medical science journals in the areas of performance nutrition, athletic performance, energy metabolism, obesity and disease prevention. Dr. Paul has conducted research using grants from organizations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, National Institute of Health, Hudson-Mohawk Association of Colleges and Universities Educational Leadership Corps, Keck Foundation Grant, and Abbott Laboratories. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Paul has served as a sport/performance nutrition and exercise physiology consultant to thousands of organizations and individuals. In January 2010, Dr. Paul will be conducting a 3 month research study examining Dr. Pauls Protocol for Optimal Health (http://www.drpaulsprotocol.com) on abdominal fat, body weight, cholesterol and glucose levels, and mood state in men and women. Dr. Paul received his B.S. from Central Connecticut State University in 1986, an M.Sc. in exercise physiology from Purdue University in 1987, an M.Sc. in nutritional sciences from University of Vermont in 1993, a doctorate in physiology of exercise from Springfield College in 1993, and post-doctoral training in applied physiology from Washington University School of Medicine in 1994. In addition to his academic and scholarly activities, Dr. Paul is a certified Yoga for Athletes Fitness System yoga instructor and has taught yoga to hundreds of individuals of all ages, both athlete and non-athlete. Dr. Paul is a former professional tennis player, competitive runner, cyclist, triathlete and Empire State Games Snowshoe Gold Medal Champion.
