Here's one for Easter - a song I wrote many years ago, with a few minor changes to bring it up to date.

Lyrics:

A young man deals drugs in the ghetto
He's never yet heard the truth.
He's quick with a knife, he's a threat to your life
But Jesus died for this youth.

...Yes, my lord Jesus died, he was crucified,
...Died so the world could be free
...He lived and he showed us how we should live
...And he died on the cross for you and me.

There's a drunken old man in the gutter,
A bottle of booze by his side,
His face is all haggard and ruined by drink.
For this man Jesus died.

There's a soldier who'd wounded in battle,
Never you mind on what side.
Killing is murder, whatever you wear.
For all mankind Jesus died.

There's a poor little African baby
Crying because there's no food.
We who have plenty must see that he's fed -
Jesus died for him too.

In this life there are so many troubles.
All men are weak from the start.
Until he is loved by the whole wide world
Jesus must live in your heart.

This song is on my third CD, "Gospel Ship."

  • Well done, Raymond!

  • @Tony2581 Thanks for checking this one out, Tony.

  • Are you a Christian Ray? If so, then you may be interested to know that so am I!

  • I was brought up as a Christian and have attended church on and off over the years, but I respect all religions. I don't think any of us have all the answers, and thinking we do has caused a lot of problems throughout history.

  • I like your phrase:

Killing is murder, whatever you wear.

The truth is always controversial. Jesus said, And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. (Matthew 10:22)

  • I agree Raymond. It was both because of us and for us.

  • Like beauty, ugliness is in the eye of the beholder. Members of the Ringwood Folk Society affectionately christened it "Black Betty." I think the problem was more that this guitar could not be tuned properly, so I don't use it any longer. Thanks for your comments.

  • @KissArmyEstonia: Let me tell you something, if you've got something intelligent to say, say it, or else just be silent. Does it matter how the guitar looks as long as he sings well with it and his songs have a deeper meaning ? But no, I guess you'd rather like an idiot who spouts shitty songs but has a pinky-shiny guitar ? Meh.

  • So beautiful, so true. If only more people would understand as you do, Raymond.

  • it's a very ugly guitar.. :D no offence
