Another 78 from the collection. Barbecue Bob was a pre-war country blues player from Georgia who sang and played the 12 string guitar. "Mississippi Heavy Water Blues" was recorded by Columbia Records in June of 1927 and is about the great Mississippi flood of that year which basically destroyed the levee system that had been built along the river, displaced close to a million people, put Herbert Hoover into the spotlight and ultimately the presidency, and got Huey Long elected governor of Louisiana. While there's noticeable noise on this piece of shellac, it's in pretty good shape for a 1927 country blues release. Finding any pre-war country blues record in playable condition is difficult. Most are "juked" from too much play on juke boxes (hence the term) or from over play on poor phonographs or "home made" phonographs. These weren't the records of the "well to do." I like everything about this disc including it's documentation of a defining moment in early 20th century U.S. history. 78s are so cool!
Great song, great disc, great pictures, and yes, great historical document! Thank you very much for posting this gem!

These records sound a lot better if you master them in mono.
