On October 16, 2008, the 1969 built 30' sloop LION slides along on her 1st run with a new prototype electric motor. With only an hour of daylight remaining, the installation is good enough to trial run, so we castoff the mooring on Tomales Bay, CA and take a 20 minute spin that proves to be joyfully flawless. Details are still very secret, but available soon - email me if interested. paul136mc@yahoo.com
This is the first Advanced Marine Electric Propulsion proto-type. It uses a pair of group 24 AGM batteries for 24v of power, and has a current limit of 80 amps input. It will provide basic maneuvering, but is not designed for passage making. The batteries recharge from two solar cells, as the boat is moored in the bay.
Motor-sailing is very pleasant. The sails stay full & you can pull very close to the wind. With the hatch on, the motor is very quiet.

What motor is this? how much does your boat weigh? Top speed? Cruising distance at 4 knots? How big of a battery bank?
