A lot of support for Atmosphere was put into Acrobat IIRC. I have heard that many of the Dev team that worked on Atmosphere are now part of the Acrobat team.
Also, Adobe acquired Macromedia, that gave them Flash/Shockwave. That did occur long after Atmosphere was gone but acquisitions like that don't happen overnight and it may have put and end to Atmosphere. After all, why put R&D into a product when you plan to buy the well established product it was going to compete against?
