What a pleasure to be able to listen to these men in the prime of their talent. Come to think of it they had a fraction of the technology that we have today - and still managed to carry the emotion the audience. Its just great.

Not only did JD's voice get deeper, but microphones became better. It takes a lot of "oomph" for basses to be heard as well as the much higher voices. I'm so glad for the improvements in sound systems so that real low notes can be heard better now. Of course (as probably all of you know) JD was the one to introduce all the singers having their own Microphone, so that the sound could be balanced better.

Did you hear with you own ears Sumner say those exact words or did you read that he said that. I heard him with my own ears in Greenville SC him standing on stage say the very words I stated. Where were you when YOU heard him say what you said?
I am curious myself.

@gospellover J.D. said exactly what I stated he has said irregardless of where you were in the mid 80s. I never said anything about being saved more than once, never. You are twisting words to promote your erroneous statement. J.D. never stated he was saved in '54 and rededicated his life later on. Anyone who knows real Stamp history knows the real facts about J.D...a fine man who was saved in his latter years. Those are HIS words, not mine or yours. Have a nice life..I am on my way to CHURCH.

Sumner stated at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion in the mid '80's (I was there) he was saved in 54 prior to joining the Blackwood Brothers. This was a confession before several thousand people.
He rededicated his life in the years nearing the end of his life. Now if you want to believe one can fall in and out of being saved than that is your belief and you are right for your belief if you call rededication being saved. I don't share that belief.

I knew jd and as far as voice goes he was a bass singer and a fine one at that

Another little know fact about J.D. is that he held the Guiness world record for the deepest bass voice ever recorded. Don't know if he still has the record, but he once did for quite a while and still may.

@gospellover J.D. SAID HIMSELF he never accepted the Lord as his savior until the latter years of his life. He didn't say he recommitted then. Big difference. That's straight from HIS mouth and I am sure he would know about that, just as you know about your salvation and the moment you were saved. I was saved myself on 9/23/1993. It is a date you never forget for it is when you take off the old and put on the new, if it is real. May the Good Lord bless you and yours.

Sumner accepted Christ as his personal Saviour in 1954 but he became a prodigal son later in his life. Christ used him because he was a child of Christ but had just gone astray. We all have probably strayed sometime along the way. I know I have but have came back home. He renewed his commitment to Christ in his later years. That is all that mattered.
Is this Bill Lyles? Doesn't sound like JD.
