Definitely clear evidence that it's best to drink an IPA as fresh as possible. I've had an old bottle of this before, and it doesn't even taste like an IPA.

  • New Punk IPA is 5.4% (the old or Punk IPA 2010 was 6%). They re-brewed the beer, dropped a lot of the bittering hops and amped up the aroma hops. The main aroma hop is Nelson Sauvin.

It has just been just been released in cans, the first British craft beer in a can!

Shame you could only get the old version as the new one is ten times better. I'll post my review of NEW Punk IPA from the can very soon.

  • @HopZine Yeah, I had heard similar but not until after I shot this vid. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the new bottles if they show up in the States. And I'll certainly be checking out your review. Cheers!

  • I've yet to find a fresh bottle of this one so I haven't bothered with it. I doubt I missing much though when there are plenty of fresh local IPAs to drink. Sounds like it might be a bit similar to Mongo IPA as well.

  • @StumpyJoeJr Yeah, I've had fresh and aged bottles, and the fresh is much better. The aged bottles just taste like a run-of-the-mill Pale Ale.

  • Brewdog is one of the breweries I want to get to sometime in 2011. The Bashah was unimpressive, though.

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Be interested in seeing your reviews of their stuff. Cheers!

  • Wow, year and a half old!? Crap, that's pretty old.

I've had IPAs that don't taste too bad with age, but BrewDog is a brewery you would have to drink fresh for sure. I think I had that with their Hardcore IPA, it wasn't that great. I did have their Punk IPA fresh in Scotland and it is super tasty! It was totally like a west coast IPA. Sadly their beers don't last though.

  • @elharlock Yeah, I think I might like this a little less than others. It's a very decent beer, but it's not really AMAZING. Maybe if I had it fresh in Scotland I'd like it a bit more.

  • Interesting to see a more middle-of-the-road grading for a BrewDog beer. Usually all I see and read are overly positive (amazing, adventurous, cutting edge) or overly negative (gimmicky, not beer) reviews of their brews.
