@grig60 Ha-ha! I guess it looks pretty primitive... but I have some nostalgic feelings for the old open-air platform actually, especially now that they're putting walls up. It was nice being out in the open - a part of the world, as opposed to goldfish-bowl-style living, where you're cut of from the world by barriers everywhere. - LHS
Re: "I remember Ebisu station from that time - with a small soba shop in the underpass." - I used to work for a company in Ebisu, back in 1984-85, but I didn't get a video camera until 1990. I'm hoping I have some more material of Ebisu, but I haven't found it yet. - LHS
Yeah - the construction of the department store overhead, etc. began around three years after this was taken. The tracks on the left were for freight trains before (now the Saikyo Line, etc.). Actually, the tracks are in the same place. The stairs going down are at 0:22, there is a walk-bridge over the tracks at 0:24, and the stairs going up are at 0:26. The open-air platform seems weird though, compared to how it is now, almost in a tunnel beneath the department store. - LHS

Very interesting! I remember Ebisu station from that time - with a small soba shop in the underpass. How Ebisu has changed since...

Wow, that's trippy. No elevated tracks, no platform 3/4, different scenery...
