This is the first of three videos showing the Saiga 7.62 rifle conversion, including: replacing the stock, installing a bullet guide, replacing the trigger group, and installing the pistol grip. In this video we install parts that are available at carolinashooterssupply.com. The kit installed is the:

Conversion Kit #2-CSS all Saiga 223, 7.62, 308, 5.45 Rifles and 410 & 20 Gauge Shotguns
SKU: R#2-CSS-5PC-T6

The kit includes:
Modified G2 FCG with Retaining Plate
Bolt on Carolina Billet Trigger Guard
Hole Plugs
Tapco AK T-6 Collapsible Stock
Tapco SAW Grip (which we replaced with a hogue grip)

We also installed the bullet guide available from carolinashooterssupply.com so that the gun can use the tapco mags.

  • You seem so confident, even when drilling that hole in the receiver for the bullet guide and all that. How badly can you mess this up if it isn't done right? Would you recommend somebody trying this, even if they don't have any machining experience?

  • @OversteerVideos as long as you understand how the weapon works you should be fine.

  • You didn't clear it first....

  • @beesnakeable Sure I did. I cleared it by removing the dust cover, pistol and bolt :)

  • I was about to do this...like tomorrow, but I had a quick question: do you need a rivet or screw set to put the rifle back together? I mean I watched you destroy the rivets right?

  • @Keniticsurfrdude You do have to destroy the rivets to take the old trigger group out, but the the conversion kits come with pins that replace the rivets. Watch the last 2 videos while looking at your parts kit and rifle, it should make more sense when you can see the pieces in front of you. If you still have questions don't hesitate to post them, good luck with your rifle, let us know how it goes!

  • awesome video but my butthole would pucker less if you invested in a drill press =p....god i hope no one takes that wrong....who am i kidding i know they will lol

  • Excellent video. Very well done. I watched it a few times and was able to do my conversion in about 2 hours. I did not do the bullet guide part so that you can use original AK47 mags. Thanks Ed and Auston!

  • You trashed your bit when it smoked on the second rivet. Take it slow, use lube. I actually drilled them out with a lot smaller bit, enough to weaken the mushroom of the rivet. I was then able to reuse them, and punch them back to mushroom. Of course this was before any kits were ever available for these things.

  • what paint exactly did u use?

  • so for a .308 model, its the same except the bullet guide right?

  • can anyone tell me if the conversion for the iz332 is any different from this? (which I am assuming is the iz132) Also, planning on using a carolinashootersupply conversion kit.. thanks..

  • @beerbrewer737 Yeah, a 10-32 is a better choice, a good bit stouter, and if'n ya gots the room, always go bigger and stronger! :)

  • @damoleman69

The bullet guide is optional. It just lets you use standard ak mags
