Mamas Gone, Goodbye - Mark Braud 2006.
A wonderful song composed by Peter Bocage, the trumpeter of Armand Pirons New Orleans Orchestra and was recorded in November 1923. It is a very pleasant tune with an interesting chord structure. I learned it after I heard it in the early sixties by the famous 1957 recording of Bobby Hackett with Jack Teagarden. I posted that on youtube as well. Even Peggy Lee did a recording, also available on youtube.
This time it is played in a concert during the 2006 Ascone Jazz Festival by Mark Brauds New Orleans Jazz Giants. Orange Kellin and Tom Fisher clarinets, Mark trumpet, Lucien Barbarin trombone, Steve Pistorius piano, Richard Noten bass and Shannon Powell drums. It should be noted that Lucien Barbarins great uncle was Paul Barbarin, who played for many years with Louis Cottrell. Cottrell in 1923 was the drummer during that first recording of Armand Pirons Orchestra
Great video - thanks for posting!
