Jennifer Allen is a critic who has worked in Berlin since 1995. A graduate of the Université de Montréal, Dr Allen has lectured at Paris's Collège International de Philosophie, Berlin's Humboldt-Universität and, most recently, at Amsterdam's Rijksakademie. She writes regular columns for Frieze, Mousse and artforum.com, and is currently completing a book about the late Québécois art critic René Payant.
Jennifer Allen will talk about her title: De anglica eloquentia:
Before we decide how to talk about art, we must decide what language we are going to speak with each other. As this text demonstrates, the English language has become the main tool for art professionals, whatever their tastes, backgrounds and mother tongues. Has the rise of English as a global lingua franca changed the way we talk, write and look at art? Is there another Tower of Babel in the future of the built environment and the city?
