@Odoth I don't know if you're joking, but it was founded in 1978 in support of Harvey Milk, including Gay in the name was contextually important to show that they wouldn't be intimidated into hiding they are homosexual. The name has stuck, but it doesn't mean membership is limited only to gay men, the requirements are only that you are male and 18 years of age

I actually think it is named gay men's chorus because of the nicer definition. You're supposed to love singing if you join a choir and be happy to perform for others. You know, like don we now our gay apparel?
