A few months before this performance I had first heard Richter play live (Beethoven Rondi op 51, Sonata op 101 and Variations on a theme by Diabelli ). His 1959 recording of Schumann's Toccata has been hardwired into my musical mind for more than 25 years - with my eyes shut, this one is clearly Richter. For one reason or another Richter had a page turner - you can see him in the video, however he does not require any sheet music for this performance of the Toccata

Stupendous performance...I have the legendary DG performance on CD. I think Richter's tempo in that one is a bit faster than here, and I like the piano sound a bit more, but both performances are great! Being able to WATCH Richter in his virtuosity here certainly adds much to appreciating his magnificence as a performer! He is one of several great artists I would have given several years off my life to have heard in person!
