OK, got it now .. doth is actually dearth which means scarcity, shortage, lack....
our only treasure ...

What does "Doth" mean as a noun? Our only treasure doth ...

@Frasssaanarchy Perhaps you're right, though they certainly have Stalinist members...even more dogmatic (and clueless) than avowedly Stalinist organisations just check out some of the 'debate' in a CPGB-ML video.

@ButherLi55ett The CPB aren't really Stalinist, more euro-communist. I think the Chartist equivalent today is largely the entire British republican movement (they've adopted the Chartist flag). Funnily enough one of the papers that pushes for this movement is the Morning Star who are affiliated with the CPB.

Lovely song. As it happens the Charter is now a front of sorts for the Stalinist CPB. Make of that what you will. Anyone know who was to the left of the Chartists?

@comoradh Well said :)

that doesn't work as a sentence in English. That would mean 'our only treasure does'... Your only treasure does *what*?
-
lol my college tutor listed this video as a source for an essay on Chartism

Socialist 4ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!

@konspiracykid They died for democracy not for the ballot, we still don't have it btw, their demands weren't met in their lifetimes and still haven't all been met today. There's supposed to be the power of recall and annual elections, what use is it to elect dictators every half decade or so, none at all.

CHARTIST ANTHEM dates from the 1840s. A People's Charter was drawn up In 1837 demanding more of a say for the masses of workers now slaving in factories and living in hovels. This Charter, which developed into Chartism, demanded amongst other things: votes for all adult males, annual parliamenlt, and secret ballots. (wikipédia)
