Heaven's Gate - In Control

Heavens Gate was a power/heavy metal band from Wolfsburg, Germany

They started out as a band called Steeltower in 1982 releasing their first record, Night of the Dog in 1984. Their first record as Heaven's Gate was 1989's "In Control". They were, together with German bands Helloween, Grave Digger, Running Wild, and Rage, the pioneers in German power metal, taking their influences mainly from Helloween as well as from Judas Priest. They also did a metal cover of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python, from the movie The Life of Brian.

Thomas Rettke - vocals
Sascha Paeth - guitars
Bonny Bilski - guitars
Robert Hunecke-Rizzo - bass
Thorsten Müller - drums

  • Heavy melody I've to stop to listen to cause the bands became seemed a lot. But in the beginning, In the age of american power metal and NWOBHM, there was more creativity. I prefer The Gathering, Candlemass, old Sepultura, old Metallica, some albuns of Black Sabbath - the Gillan' screams are a great moment of a dark heavy metal.

  • HAMBURG GERMANY METAL

  • @Bamananatic I've got them both but I DO think that Livin'.....is a bit better album.

  • @DardenLaoke Avantasia are NOTHING compared to HG!!

  • Why does this band remind me so much of Helloween during the Kiske Era? :D

  • what a song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @SteeleHard hmm... I see your taste for music is more refined than mine. I tend to just like what I like, and hardly bother to know the history of bands and styles aside from their names. Kudos to you.

  • This is such an excellent album. Too bad it's kinda overlooked. Many more people know Livin' In Hysteria, but this album is just as good. Prefect mix of traditional heavy metal and 80s power metal.

  • @DardenLaoke Avantasia is so far to be as such good as Heaven´s Gate was in their very first works, that style of Rockin´that HG practiced, Avantasi never did it, I mean Avantasi is that kind of modern Power, with a lot of influence, HG was a kind of classic tune, they was Heavy Metal with a Rockin´touch that today don´t exist in modern Heavy Metal, so to me, HG are far, more authentic than avantasia

  • @SteeleHard There is! Avantasia, for example. There must be more!
