Here is one of my latest accomplishments that I am rather proud of. This is an original Rudy the Robot from the seventies. I got it KNOWING it didn't work, but he is a classic, and not a lot of them do work because they have a reverse bar. When it hits a wall, the bar goes back and he backs up. Well, they always break...the first thing to go on it. And I planned on getting one of the brand new ones some company was gonna put out, but they dumped the idea. So...I did some robotic surgery. I opened him up and completely removed the reverse bar. The battery box was corroded, so I took that out. I bought a new 4 C cell holder, instead of D's. I bought a new toggle switch. I drilled a hole in his back, inserted the toggle switch, put the new battery holder in the hole left by the old box, wired up the motor and to my surprise, the thirty year old motor works like a charm. So now, I have an updated classic. He walks forward, but ONLY forward. But so what...most of my other ones do that only too. But he has a classic robotic walk which I now have again, and what was nothing more than a space taker upper is now a functional toy robot. I'll probably hear how I ruined it's value by taking out the bar...screw that. He is not worth a plug nickle to ME not working at all. At least now he has life.
