PSYCHOMANIA / WALTON-ON-THAMES

FOR A LONG TIME I BELIEVED THIS WAS FILMED IN HATFIELD OR STEVENAGE, HERTFORDSHIRE. BUT NO, IT TURNS OUT TO BE "WALTON-ON-THAMES". THIS IS FROM THE 1972 HORROR FILM "PSYCHOMANIA". THE STORY WAS ABOUT A GANG OF BIKERS CALLED THE "LIVING DEAD" WHO KILL THEMSELVES IN MOTORBIKE ACCIDENTS, THEN COME BACK TO LIFE. IN THIS SCENE THEY TERRORISE THEIR LOCAL SHOPPING CENTRE (WALTON-ON-THAMES).

For those of you, Like me, Who are dissapointed it's not Hatfield after all. Keep your eyes peeled for a film called "The Martins" starring Kathy Burke and Lee Evans. That was definately filmed in Hatfield.

Solow79 and 01waltja say it is neither Hatfield or Stevenage, but is in fact Walton On Thames. solow79 has pointed out a website to me with a pic of that pub in the film as it looks today. The mystery is solved. Thanks solow79 and 01waltja.

I am going to paint 'The Living Dead' on the back of my leather jacket now and terrorise Walton-On-Thames , then ride through a brick wall !! *Also* Psychomania was George Sanders last movie before he committed suicide in a hotel in Barcelona in 1972 ...!! I wonder if he was buried with 'the frog ? '.....

We used to congregate outside the sweet parlour next to Grant Warden on a Sat morning.Wellington Place is still there,but the Dukes head has gone.Replaced by crap Social Housing block and empty Waitrose below.The precinct had a lovely Chinese restaurant,but i forgot the name?Anyone from 1980/85 Halliford school or Wallop 1976/80 you can find me at The Jolly Farmer Fridays 6pm,Weybridge or David Lloyd,Weybridge.

I recognised it as Walton the first time I saw the film in the 70s, as I've lived in the area all my life. I remember this shopping centre going up in the sixties, now it's been totally redeveloped into a Sainsbury's and indoor shopping mall. The old centre was always pretty dreary, it could've done with a few rampaging Living Dead to liven it up!
