The Jeremiah O'Brien is a Liberty Ship launched on June 19, 1943 in South Portland, Maine, USA. The ship, which was named after a American Revolutionary War hero, made severeral voyages across the atlantic an joined the Allied armada during D-Day in the French Normandy. That she is still here and might be visited in San Francisco is because of all the brave seamen and the foundation, which take care to here nowadays.
The model itself was constructed over a period of more than 5 years and casts a length of more than 3m 80 (more than 12 foot!!). She is build in the scale 1/35 and ... sorry to say ... she is a single piece and not for sell!

  • DANG! it sunk again... go get a submarine and a trailer hitch...

  • @princessapayne what you mean with "..again..". JO'B never sank luckily ;-)

  • Impressive, very nice model. Superb workmanship and attention to detail.

And also very fast, much faster than a real Liberty .

I supose this one is powered by an electric motor.

Would be super to have this model driven by a real steam engine !

  • @doerlidoe Thanks for comment! About the speed it is always hard to judge from video shots because it seems always much faster than seeing a model in real (must have something to do with the viewing angle and stuff like that). As a matter of fact the vessel is not scale speed even so they have run faster than one would expect. Regarding the engine, yes it is electric power. A real working steam engine would not be a problem at all, there is plenty of room, but E is just easier in handling.

  • How big is this boat

  • @busterbrown17

As it is said in the video it is in the scale 1/35 which makes about 3.8 meters in length. That's approx. 12.5 foot!!

  • That would have been my old man the lil figure in gun tub aft... S.S. Lou Gehrig

  • @RetoFor Yes, electricity is easier to handle.

Also, such a big model would also require a rather big and powerful (model) steam engine.

probably nothing that is comercialy available: making it nessesary to construct one 's own engine ( and boiler ). Still this model is a remarkable archievement !

Oh yes, there are many. Just search YouTube for "USS Arizona RC model" and you gonna find plenty. Anyway most of them are scratch built (no kit or ready-to-run) but seldomly in the same scale as the J O'B from Rolf (1/35 !!) with a total length of nearly 4 meters.

  • Is there no USS Arizona RC boat?
