From 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on November 8, GROW Nebraska and B&R Stores offered Nebraska businesses a chance to sample their wares for B&R department managers. If selected, the Nebraska businesses can then sign on to sell their products in Russ's Markets and Super Savers. This event was open to GROW's food vendors and members who sell other items that could be sold in a grocery store setting. Examples may include bath and body, candles, and outdoor products.

To prepare members for opportunities like this, GROW offers a mentor program and product evaluation services. "It's very rewarding because I get to work with interesting people to help them realize their goals, develop their products," Cheryl Hughes, CEO of HR Poppin' Snacks and mentor member, said. "I always wish I could have had the same kind of help when I started. I can help them avoid a few pitfalls."

After the wonderful success of a previous B&R Stores tasting opportunity in July and due to the quality of products, GROW anticipates Russ's Markets and Super Saver will find more local items to carry in their stores. Opportunities like this allow Nebraska businesses the chance to expand their market access.

Russ's B&R is an employee-owned corporation based in Lincoln, Nebraska with stores in Nebraska and Iowa. According to their web site, Russ's is "committed to being an active partner with each of the communities it serves in an effort to enhance the lives of both its customers and employees."

GROW Nebraska's mission is to maximize the state's entrepreneurial and small business spirit, create an economically viable and sustainable environment for entrepreneurs, and generate social awareness through promotion, marketing and education. GROW hosts year-round retail training centers in Kearney, Grand Island, and Norfolk. They also have three eCommerce web sites, including an eBay store, to provide Nebraskans with greater market access.
