Blue Six's third album, NOESIS, certainly starts off on the right foot: the smooth, sultry house of "Luxury," with Catherine Russell, possibly the strongest vocalist in the Blue Six camp. That's not to say that the others don't do well, as well: Aya offers up herself to the sparse arrangement of "You Play Too Rough" and the slinky "One More Night," and Tabitha Fair contributes to several tracks. The title track is pretty enough, and quite appropriate for head-nodding. But Denes can also slip into mediocrity too, like on the wan R&B of "If You Turn Your Back on Love" or "Anything Is Possible." "You Used to Rock," similarly, is good-but-not-outstanding He's back on firmer ground with "I Tried to Tell You" and "No Two Things," which have a quiet, filtered quality to them, and "Bittersweet," with its long synths.
