This video explains why I think musicians on a budget should use it. I bought this my first one way back in 1990. It has many sounds like the DX7 but it only uses 4 operators instead of eight. It is very easy to edit using any of the presets as a starting point. It is the quickest 80's FM synth to change the attack and filter on in this price range. I think it is great on talkbox because it is the yamaha FB01 inside of it. Korg bought the patent for it so they could use it in this model. Thats what I read on a few post and alsoin Keyboard magazine. The question for me is why didn't Yamaha do it with their DX100. I know Roger would have used it when he would see how vibrato after touch and velocity keys get off!
Korg was very smart when they tooked something not fully cooked and cooked it! Thanks to Yamaha and Korg for this little monster!! I have saved 30 hours of tweaking because of what Korg did with the sliders on the front.

  • @ I just returned from my church gig to find your great comment..Before Roger started using the DX100 I was using a DX7 to do covers of all his funky hits..So yeah I agree that the DX family is better than the FB01 even though they are both yamaha invention that includes the 707..The 707's portamento sucks compared to my DX7..both the DX7 and DX100 suck when it comes to programming basic sounds.

  • "The question for me is why didn't Yamaha do it with their DX100." Er... they did. Take a look at the YS-200.

  • @thisisnev lol..thanks for the heads up..but my words still stand in 1987..the YS-200. was released after the 707..but the point you are making is close enough..Yamaha fif do something easy to edit..I will have to check this thing out!

    Thanks!

  • I have one of these that my little boy used to play with. Now I'm thinking of using it with a synth module to add to my sounds. Thanks for the demo!

  • @videopimp1 you are welcome! For fast FM synthesis programming this board can't be beat.:) And if you midi it up with a module you can have some really new sounds for the world to feel and hear.:)

  • Excuse me if I don't agree but the 707 sucks when it comes to talkbox! It has no real "clean" mono mode (without that phasing unison effect) and can't play legato properly… I know because I own one and it can't match my DX100.

  • may i play piano on that?

  • I love your special cloudy effects! Keep it up man!
