The movie was made by Melies in few variations (this is one of the longest). One day he saw black people playing and dancing, impersonating the upper white class party. He made it into a movie with white actors (some of them are just painted black). The movie was very popular (like most of them in that time) and soon the upper white class was dancing like this on they're partys :-)
