This clip features the wonderful Jazz Guitar of Cal Collins in a quartet situation introduced by Benny Goodman. Enjoy.

  • Wow I can see him now, sitting in at Whitey's Cocktail Lounge on Colerain Ave. in Cinci. musicians came there on Tuesday nights just to jam. Eddie Drake, Jr. Bennett, Rusty York all in a dive breaking a sweat.I spent a Christmas at one of Cal's families house there in the Queen City.

  • Sweet !

  • Never heard of him but better off now that he is found on here : D

  • @bigpickle120 > Cal Collins is my grandma Betty Collins Wilkersons brother, he was a very cool cat, loads of fun at family reunions :) I am priviledge to have him, my father and my youngest cousin as musically inclined :)

  • Not only was Cal an important player, he was also a really kool guy, he was alot of fun to be around, and a gentleman, he was a "blast from the past'..

  • Cal Collins grande chitarra. Suonare con il grande Benny devi avere swing a go go e Cal ne aveva tanto. Grande gusto , bel fraseggio , gran dinamica e grande pulizia con gli accordi. Fantastico !!!!!

  • Hipster dufus? YouTube "Barrett Deems " like my man said. A phenomenon. Bring some salt, it'll help while you eat your words.

  • How about Goodman just sittin' there looking disappointed after the tune's finished ?

He was notoriously a hard person to please.

  • hey cal collins is my grandfather his son is scott schwan and im scotts son nd if u dont believei wont care... my dad first met him wen he was about 20 in a hotel in fort wayne indiana(: this is the first time i got to hear him play and he is good(:

  • I was taking lessons from Cal at a music store in Hamilton Ohio. One day I showed up and they said he had gone on the road with Benny Goodman. That recording was probably not too long after that.

I saw Cal too many times to count back in my days in Cincinnati. Love the chord solos and the down home sound in those lines. I'm still playing some licks I got from him. He's one of my favorites of all time.
