Local history program at the Washington Township NJ Library remembering a swimming area called Pine Lake, which was a popular destination during the 20th Century until it closed in 1976. A sentimental recollection, recorded 6.23.08.
I only remember it as just an abandoned falling apart place when I was kid in the 80's. My grandparents lived on Coolidge Ave. and used to go there all the time. It's nice to see what it once looked like. They should have made a park or something there instead of just paving it over and putting up houses.
What a great memory! The lake actually closed a few years after 1976. I was a lifeguard there during the summers of 77 and 78, and I think it closed in 79 or 80. I was sad to see it go. Those were the times...
Great pics - many wonderful memories. I was a lifeguard at PIne Lake from 1956-1962. I ived on Manhattan Ave. I knew Myra Gordon & her sister Cookie of PIne Lake Drive.
1980. What wonderful memories of Pine Lake and the restaurant....and do not forget how
we ice skated away the winters on the lake and also fished (tho never caught anything but polywogs) on the lake and fell in numerous times!!!!! Thanks for the memories (as a famous guy once said..guess that really ages me!)
Thank you again...with love from beverly bross constantin
