Atlatl Demonstration - Burke Museum

Dr. Jim Nason teaches Burke staff members how to throw an "atlatl," an ancient hunting tool. The atlatl will be part of the program at "Ice Age Archaeology," a public event on October 18, 2009 at the Burke Museum in Seattle. http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseum/event/iceage/

@KonstantinKuehn not always man i shoot unflechted darts like the australian aborigines.with a heavy wood arrowheads.and they fly strait...but yeah.forsure man Morons. book nerds.that are not practical spear throwers that stick is not a dart it has no flex.thats why it wont fly.u need a flexiable river cane dart or much thinner limb.with lots of flex..atlatl weight wont matter either.. 1 sec ago

Dart is too stiff and short ...use a 1/2" dowel and a bit of fletch and you will get better results .. ;-)

@darkcolmar yeah this guy kinda fails at being an expert! no fletchings too short dart seems a little too thick as well for the length..... i love it how they cheered him on for just putting more shoulder into it than then other ppl.... yeah youtube is generally an awesome resource!

that's because it's too short and not fletched. It needs to be twice as long as it is. It seems to me that Dr. Nason needs to learn from Tom Mills AKA PaleoAleo here on youtube
