Here are two of the best songs from STEAMED, the one and only album released by Calliope. The album was released on Buddah Records in 1968, and its heavy psychedelic rock style was rather at odds with the typical bubblegum pop that Buddah was well known for at the time. STEAMED as well as Eire Apparent's SUNRISE are probably the best psychedelic rock albums released on Buddah.

1) "Like a Rolling Stone"
2) "I Want to Thank You."

I found my copy of the Calliope album in a record store in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

  • did they do this before dylan?

  • No, this was definitely after Dylan--about three years after his version was a hit.

  • I went to see this band in the 60's at the Seattle Center. They had a great organ music song without lyrics as an introduction. Does anybody remember the name of the song? Not listed on Amazon. Jim

  • I remember this session...the guys were all very friendly...thier producer "NOT!"...done in Hollywood...one of the 1st Studios in the 60's to have an 8-track (no joke)...^/^

  • @K1ngcat I had this album way back then. I saw Calliope live several times here in the NW. Great band. Dylan wrote this song, had a big hit with it. Maybe someone could post some other music from this album? I would enjoy hearing it again.

  • Thanks for posting this, it's one of my favourite rarities! How would you like to post their great funky version of the old blues, 'Jimmy Bell' too? And maybe that cute, poppy 'How About You'? Please!!

  • This and Chrome Cyrcus are Seattle psych

    must haves

followed by The Floating Bridge and if you can find them Dennis the Fox and Grand Theft! :)

  • I used to go see Calliope a Eagles Ballroom in Seattle (they were U of W students). Danny O'Keefe went on to record two very nice albums on his own, but is best remembered as the songwriter of the oft-recorded "Goodtime Charly's Got The Blues".
