Prince Rama Varma renders an eloquent Annamacharya composition in the Raaga Revagupti at NGMA Mumbai. He is accompanied on the violin by Shri Madhavan and on the mridangam by Shri Ganesh.

  • This is the first time I was listening to Sri Rama Verma.

His voice is magical and his experiments will not amount to deviation. I thouroghly liked his body getting tuned to the verse and the whole song/keerthan is so enchanting.

But the Video quality is so poor, the concert was not framed pretty well in the video.

Would apprciate if you can upload with a more clear video.

Very godd one indeed. Thank you very much for sharing with us.

  • Welcome to Varmaji's music :) Unfortunately many of the videos I have posted are rough recordings made on camcorders by people in the audience. But there are quite a few okay quality recordings too. Please feel welcome to go through my entire channel gradually and Varmaji's website too, the link for which you can find in my profile. You will thank me if you do :)

  • dear musiquebox, nice video. thanks for posting. i heard somewhere that this is in raga bowli. is bowli the same as revagupti? could you please confirm?

  • Varmaji tells me that revagupti uses Sa, Ri, Ga, Pa, Da, Sa going up, just like bowli. But while coming down, while ravagupti uses just Sa, Da, Pa, Ga, Ri, Sa, bowli uses the Ni too.

  • O Lord Vishnu, it is due to your Maya/Illusion that:

-I cannot distinguish between the sin and the allowed.

-I cannot be able to cultivate good qualities in myself.

-I cannot be able to stop the greed in myself.

O Lord Vishnu, due to your Illusion:

-I have abandoned to purify myself, abandoned renunciation, abandoned to keep myself pure and clean.

O lord what is the purpose of this human life filled with these illusions of yours when you clearly know that i have "Willed" myself into only you.

  • God through Gurudeva Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya for our enlightenment explaining to us about his Illusion and why/how we should have our focus only on him:

"I on purpose get into difficulties

I get entangled in many bonds of this world

O Lord Sri Venkateshwara who presides everywhere

I understand, that you skilfully illusion me into these matters knowing very well that i am only seeking you and nothing else

What is the use of taking this Human birth

And i trust only your "will" on my life"

  • ABSOLUTELY....!!!! I did go through Varma Sir's site.., yes it is. While I was watching his Photos, the back ground music selection is marvellous.., I felt as though the background music is reflecting the mood too.

Nose tells everything. He is so elegantly carrying himself.

  • Shri Madhavan on the violin and Shri Ganesh on the Mridangam. Both artists are settled in Bombay.
