If I were you, I'd do whatever was more comfortable. Personally I like to pick the song but thats just me.

@littlejoshkiller not to step on anakin's toes or anything, but...it might be a good idea to go ahead and learn the fingerpicking stuff early on, so its not so difficult later, you know? it is very confusing for me, after only 8 years of playing pink floyd and Van Halen, and Mettallica.
