Knex Power Loom + lego, Capsela

This is a working loom, powered by one AA battery running a Capsela gears set modified to drive a Knex gear. Legos are used to house the motor and ground the loom.

The loom lifts and lowers adjoining strands of yarn and also winds up the "fabric" as it is woven. (Crudely woven.)

It is still necesarry for a loom operator to pass the shuttle back and forth and tweak things to keep it running well. The next step would be to create a flying shuttle system that would pass the shuttle back and forth without an operator. (The first person to invent one of these started the industrial revolution.) A Lego NXT could do it, but without a NXT it is a real puzzle.

Check on line for info about "heddles." That's the part that seperates the yarn so your shuttle can go through. Once you build a heddle you just need to motorize it.
