Standard 5 Number 73129 blasting up Golden Valley hauling 71000 'Duke of Gloucester'. The first time the only two Caprotti's left in UK have been together since BR Days. Filmed from Cab of 73129.... Loud Exhaust

  • Where is this?

  • BR standards are fitted with steam operated cocks, so it takes at least a good few seconds for the cocks to open after the leaver in the cab has been moved to the open position, then again maybe the regulator should have been closed sooner rather than later..

  • Beasty loco must be the most hellfire kettle going.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Given they are your fellow enginemen perhaps a little humility required on your part, I have worked on and around the footplate for 30 years on steam, diesel and electrics and known some truly great drivers on preserved lines, mainlines etc... no Crew is perfect all the time, everyone occasionally makes mistakes ... lets hope no ones filming your loco handling the day you cock up.... which will inevitably happen as it does to us all, it called being human!.

  • Just found this again. You're wrong actually, I'm a fireman and now trainee driver on a preserved railway. It seems you the cameraman weren't part of the locos crew and someone has said that the fireman was shoveling at the time, but the driver should have noticed sooner. It's going tender first so he was probably looking the other way, although he should have heard it.

  • great vid

  • You are right and I was an invited guest... the priming was an oversight much to the crews embarresment later.... however me thinks its still a great video and I resent Ricksmartarses comments as these people are my friends and I doubt Ricksmartarse as ever driven or fired in his life.

  • I very much doubt it was the fireman, especcially as at around 50secs you can hear him (or her) shoveling coal.

  • well rickskateboard, you would notice this was filmed from the right hand side of the cab, not the left hand side. And as the standard 5 is a left hand drive loco, it wasnt the driver videoing, and it was unlikely to be the fireman, more like an innocent footplate passenger. But something should have been done about the priming long before it was.
