La Vita è bella (Life is Beautiful) is a story that takes place in Italy in 1930. Guido Orefice (Roberto Benigni) works as a waiter under the watchful eye of his uncle, an elegant man who is a Jew. Guido falls for Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), a schoolteacher, whom he calls "princess" and courts by popping up at unexpected times. She dumps her fiancé to choose Guido. Together they get a son, Giosué (Giorgio Cantarini). Because of his Jewisch origin, Guido is sent to a concentration camp together with Giosué. Dora follows them but comes into the women's part of the camp. To make sure his son will survive, Guido pretends everything is a game; Giosué has to hide in order to get points and achieve the final goal: to get 1000 points and win a tank.
An unforgettable fable that proves love, family and imagination conquer all.

Eliseo: Think of a sunflower, they bow to the sun. But if you see some that are bowed too far down, it means they're dead. You're here serving, you're not a servant. Serving is the supreme art. God is the first of servants. God serves men, but he's not a servant to men.
