  • might i ask what mouthpiece were you using in this vid?

the kanstul sounds like a dream, but the mouthpiece has a great impact on sound too.

i just want to know the kit u use to achieve this wonderful, full, warm sound

  • @chickenlaise - Hello. I used the stock kanstul mouthpiece I believe which is probably equivalent to a Bach 5C. Sure the mouthpiece can have an influence on the sound but it doesn't seem to be as pronounced a difference as on a trumpet.

  • dude, firstly very nice tone - warm and round (nice!), secondly you have good enough technique and you clearly have the right sort of hardware, one thing, with regards to improv (which was nice dont get me wrong), less is more. i think you should chill out a bit. great playing!

  • Thanks for your honest comment. It's refreshing to hear negative comments on the music as well as positive. I appreciate the fact that you weren't abusive. I'm currently struggling with the "less is more" concept. Bobby Shew once said to me that people told him his solos got better after he injured his right hand and couldn't play as fast.

  • Is tht an Arturo model flugelhorn?

  • No. It's a Kanstul 1525 with a brush copper finish.

  • i have the exact flugelhorn. Kanstul 1525. My favorite flugel of all time.

  • nice playing but do you really need that backing track? it is pretty distracting (in a bad way)

  • @edcontact Though it realy makes a huge difference, i still have not found the perfect mouthpiece for me.. It still isnt what i want it to be,

  • @NDguy141 Bobby Shew is very personable and it probably helps that he lives in my old hometown and I took some lessons with him.

  • dam they look gay and boxy

  • Hey great sound! I personally prefer summertime kept basic, but what does that matter.

  • What a nice view from your window.

  • Yup, less would definitely be more in your case. Just listen to Chet... The more notes you play the worse your timing gets and eventually your swing feel is completely lost. I've heard some of your other recordings and you can play really well but this one didn't start off well and eventually I had to stop it playing!! Sorry..
