  • Awesome review, Ben. When I was 10 or so, I had this a cracked version that I was fascinated by, but the game would always freeze after 5 mins and I never got to figure out how to play it. Finally, I get to see what the game was about!! I'll have to fire it up in Steem as well

  • All the steem versions I played bombed too after 5-10 minutes. Play the pc version, it doesn't have this problem.

  • In the ST version of this I have, the enemy, in strategy games, always goes about it the exact same way every time... Twilight - Arachnid - Obsidian - Sanctuary - Treasure - Taxhaven - Vatland, etc.

Is it so in your copy?

Whereas in the PC version it doesn't.

  • I have both versions, I checked the pc version I have and It's the same sequence. The PC version gives you a handy " Time Warp " button to speed up the gameplay... but for a price imo - the carrier has an engine sound that it hear whenever she's in motion ( so it's a little overkill )

  • *that you hear

  • I had this game on my ST well i still do but its all hiding in the loft LoL but it was a cool game for its time

  • Thanks for the review and a fair reflection on what was a very realistic and detailed game, as someone else said, I too, at around 12 years old played this.

There were several ways to trap the enemy carrier out at sea if I recall(such as taking an island back after the enemy had just took it, the enemy carrier would come back at you!), and I think even the enemy carrier could run out of fuel too and instead of you auto winning, the game just continued.

    Love Carrier Command!

  • From where can i download this lovely game and how can i install it?

  • I loved how complex this game was, so complex I barely grasp it as a kid!!

  • This video was of great help to me in learning how to play this for a "let's play" video I wanted to do of it. Thanks :)

Too bad you're not posting any more though. This looks like it could have been a great series.

  • Back in the day, I was so stunned and hooked by this game, I really thought my bedroom was a Carrier and I was at war......

  • man i loved this game as a kid.. they should make remake or sequel of if with todays graphics and some improvements maybe like making the game bigger.. or put multiplayer in it... that would be so cool

  • @nerdballoon1boon We greatly improved the enemy carrier tactics for the PC version and then rolled these back into the 68000 code for the Mac release.

  • @tosgem Ah yes, the freezing on cracked vesions was something I deliberately put into Carrier Command. Call it an "easter egg" for pirates. :-)

I might be releasing the source for Carrier some time soon, and you'll easily be able to see what I did.

  • Probably the best game ever made on any platform. I cannot believe someone got this to run on a 1986 Atari 520 ST. It is better than any game ever released on the SNES.

  • definitely one of the best st/amiga games

  • @tinyural I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're saying. Can you clarify that?
